Blimp Over Bedford!

Posted by Sharkey

Recently, I was lounging out on the terrace when I looked up in the sky and spotted a blimp!  It was the first time I’ve ever seen a blimp so close.  I just couldn’t figure out why it was flying around Bedford.  So strange!

Well, what the heck is that thing up in the sky and floating towards the farm?

Is it a bird or a plane? Or perhaps an alien spaceship?

Oh, I get it now. It's one of those advertising blimps. Martha tells us how they often fly over stadiums, but why is it flying around here?

Well, here's an interesting fact. In 1783, the Montgolfier brothers of Annonay, France, sent the first hot air balloon aloft. Maybe this blimp is celebrating the fact that Franny and I are French!

Martha told us that blimps all have four main components - the envelope for helium, the gondola for passengers, the power plant for propellers, and the controls for steering.

She also said that blimps can fly up to, and sometimes more then 5,000 feet! What's the deal with this one?

This one seems to be landing. I can barely see it anymore.

I should have called Francesca as soon as I saw it.

Now the blimp is gone and I bet Franny won't believe me when I tell her about it. No doubt, she'll just think I'm full of HOT AIR! Good thing I took photos for the blog!

  • Moon over Manhattan so why not Blimp over Bedford? My first thought was that they were spying on MommyMartha, you, Franny, and GK.

You know if the three of you had your own little mini blimp you could finally get to those doggone squirrels who like to tease you so much.

  • Good Morning Girls

Sharkey we had a blimp go by my house once and T-Bone went crazy. He wouldn't stop barking until it was out of sight I think he was protecting us from the big bubble. Mom said they fly over the sports stadiums all the time.

So tell me F & S how did G.K. get his mug on the Thanksgiving issue of Martha's magazine??? What's with that? Why no Frenchie faces??? I must admit he is a good looking chow but nothing is as cute as a Frenchie face :) I have to tell you my mom gets such a big smile on her face when she opens the mailbox and has an issue of M.S.Living waiting for her.

It's a bit brisk here today I think fall weather has finally arrived. Well I think I'll go snuggle with dad I'm chilly.

  • Good Morning Ladies,
How lucky you were to see the blimp Sharkey. I have never heard of a blimp, let alone seen one. I think I might be scared to ride in one. I have never been in an airplane like you all who are the world travelers. A bit brisk here this morning. We had our first frost last night. Mom and Dad were very busy yesterday getting plants in the greenhouse and picking veggies. Well, keep your eyes open for flying saucers next ladies. Have a great Wednesday.

    Love & licks,
    Basil

  • Sharkey, you may actually be full of hot air - just don't let it come out the other end, if you know what I mean! Don't worry about Francesca believing you; missing seeing the blimp was her loss and your gain! Be proud that you witnessed yet another fantastic French invention - the French rule!

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
Wow Sharkey, you really did get to see something unusual. Blimps often are found at sporting events and can be seen moving between events. Maybe there is a sporting event close by this weekend. My Daddy told me that the Good Year Blimp pilot told him that people often shoot at them; putting holes in the envelope. They carry extra gas just for that purpose. The ground crew will patch the hole before the next flight. When you see a blimp flying between events, it is usually flying low so people can not shoot at it. The neighbor kid used to shoot at me with his BB Gun. He quit when Mommy told him she would put him in jail.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • Hi sharkey,Rockey here ,You take the best pictures! I've never seen a blimp! I'm glad you explained it to me.Without pictures Bo doesn't ever believe me either. Sometimes I just have to trick him ,He's just too easy! Haven't heard anything about my grandneice Lily yet so we're all praying. Your friend Rocky

  • Hi Girl Friends &G.K., My dear Sharkey, you are extremely brilliant, too! I love your photos and comments about that fascinating blue blimp! Your info was really great to know. Do you think you will ever ride on a blimp? I've never see one. We only have very noisy airplanes flying over our house every day and night. When I'm outside, the noise sure hurts my ears. Hope you have a great day and will be waiting for many more great blogs from all 3 of you!!! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • Maybe Frannie was manning the blimp!

When I lived in CA. a very long time ago, the blimp would fly at night during summer and display lots of colorful shapes and images on the side panel.

  • That is so cool! we see them here as well...
Sharkey I'm glad you got to see it, too bad Francesca didn't...maybe the next time.

My mom was performing at the Madison Square Garden in 1937 and everyone ran outside to see the hydrogen-filled dirigible Hindenburg fly over, she saw it shortly before it burnt up in that tragic accident...good thing in this day and age they don't have to use hydrogen anymore.

  • Hi Sharkey,
Barks from Bartlett! A blimp has flown over my house too! I live near Chicago, so we see blimps a couple times a year. I like the Met blimp the most because of my buddy Snoopy!

  • P.S. Are you sure the blimp isn't really Madame Tang (who became so fat that she went into orbit)? Haha. Dogs rule!

  • Hello sharkey, I'm glad you got to see a blimp, I've seen one when I was younger but haven't seen one lately. They are kind of neat, they don't scare me... but I'm scared of hot air balloons, they make a loud noise when they fly over head.It was nice talking to you, I'm a big fan of you and francesca & I really enjoy your blog. your friend..
