Basking Hounds

Posted by Sharkey

Franny and I were soaking up the warmth of the sun the other day when I suddenly realized something major was happening.  We, Frenchies, have had such an amazing summer and we hoped it would go on forever.  No such luck!

It feels so good sitting here basking in the sun. I'm a genuine basking hound!

You're right, Franny, this feels great, but I'm looking at something a little disturbing.

Disturbing? What do you mean, Sharkey?

Well, I'm looking at that tree over there.

Yes, Franny. Times, they are a changing!

Sharkey, I guess we won't be enjoying the outdoor sun for too much longer.

In fact - Excuse me, Laura! Do you think that you could please find our winter wardrobe? We'll be needing it soon.

  • So far having a very pleasant fall here in Chicago. Love seeing you two playing on the farm. For a moment I thought maybe you two spotted an army of squirrels trying to stage an ambush!

I bet GK can't wait to romp around the farm now that the weather is cooling down. I finally saw the second cover of the new MSL Nov. issue. Wow is GK a beautiful boy. Totally framable photo.

Happy Birthday Kirby Bear. I hope you get some wonderful presents and yummy food to celebrate.

  • Good Morning Girls

Yes the trees are changing color and the leaves are falling to the ground not to mention the nip in the air. Doesn't it feel just wonderful laying in the grass soaking up some warmth from the sun - it's the best. We have to enjoy it now because pretty soon we'll be freezing our little french butts off.

I have to tell you we had some uninvited guests this weekend those Wild Turkeys are back. They arrived on Friday and were all over our deck and we have a 6 foot fence around our yard. Denise who cleans our house was taking pictures of the beasts so she could show mom. Then Saturday there had to be 40 or 50 walking down our street and on everyones lawn. I'll tell ya they are one scary looking bird. Oh and the worse part was they pooped all over the deck and furniture. Mom was out there Saturday morning
cleaning up and I heard her use the "F" bomb a few times talking about those ugly birds. I had a meeting with the other dogs and we plan on taking out a few next time they hop our fence, we'll teach them a lesson ;)

Well Happy Monday - I hate Mondays :(

  • Yes, I'm with Sonya, I thought you saw some odd critter, but a couple of leaves turning? Geesh, all our leaves are mostly gone, especially the Oak and Hickory...hubby has been in California for 2 weeks and is coming back tomorrow, he'll have to rake and blow tons of leaves...poor guy, and then surgery the next day. I can't help too much cause of my wrist and back, well just a little bit ;)
Kitty loves laying on top of the leaves, guess they are warm...it saddens me the year is coming to an end, not that I don't like snow I just don't like it for 5 months...got to get out of here! where is a perfect place? really no where.

    Happy Birthday Kirby!!! :)

  • Hello Ladies,
I was getting all excited thinking there was a squirrel or even better. Your farm is certainly beautiful in the fall from what I remember from last year's photos. It is a shocker I guess, seeing autumn come again. I love it though---sitting out basking in the sun. I just wish my buddy, Tasha were here to enjoy it with me. Those were the days when we sunbathed together. Mom is making more apple sauce today. The tree was really a producer this year. I knew fall was here when it started getting cold at night. I have a night shirt I wear to keep me warm. Kirby, I bet you don't have that problem. What are you doing for your birthday? Hope it is a good one.

    Love & licks,
    Bsil

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
Yes, the winter is coming again. I have been getting my winter coat ready for the past two weeks now. I’m getting really bushy with all the new hair coming in. It makes me look soooo gooood; but it itches a little coming in. There is very little hair on the brush now days. Yep, it’s been a good weekend for me. Happy birthday to me, happy birthday to me. I’m now nine years old; be an old timer quicker than I really want to. I can still give the best squirrel a run for his money. I think Mommy and Daddy are getting ready to leave again. When we get back, the whole yard will be covered with leaves. Then they will have to pay for our vacation of fun.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • Hi Girl Friends &G.K., I certainly know what you mean about being a 'Basking Hound'. I really love to go outside even when it's cold out there, but only if the sun is out so I can bask in it. If it's warm enough, I'll lay down and soak the sun in for a long time. Your photos are great again and I love to see your beautiful farm any time of the year. Sure hope you girls stay warm and I know G.K. is comfortable in cooler weather. Did all 3 of you get to go to Skylands over the weekend with Martha and Kevin again?! If you did, can't wait to see your blog about it. Have a great day everyone! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • Hi Francesca and Sharkey: Yes, it is time for the fur to stay on the pup! Momma said she seems to think all of my fur goes right down deep into the carpet and then she moves this noisy thing over the carpet and it pulls all my fur up. I think it's funny and she doesn't.

Happy Birthday Kirby Bear! Being 9 years old carries much responsibility doesn't it? Tell all of us what you get for presents. Have a great trip too.

Well, it is time for my noon nap. Take care. See ya later. Love, Gracyn.

  • Autumn is beautiful, Winter is the pits! Too icy and cold!

Maybe you can sit under a sun lamp for some faux sun!

    Love you both!

  • Hi Girls,
Barks from Bartlett again! My mom is a grad student in the museums studies program through Johns Hopkins. For her class assignment she has to follow a blog. She chose yours! I agreed. Since I’m always cuddled up to her while she does homework, we might as well have a blog we both enjoy. Do you have any comments you would like to share with her class?

  • Winter is coming, that is for sure. Winters where I grew up, Pinewood MN, were terribly, awfully, horribly cold and snowy, although we stayed snug and cozy in the house with the wood burning stove. It's a little less cold in Milwaukee, and this year I'm having a break from the cool, rainy autumn weather, since New Mama and Papa are working in Myrtle Beach. So instead of leaves, I get to stroll along the beach and chase the sea birds. There is a nice sunny spot in the afternoon that I bask in, but it get too hot to stay there for too long.
