Better Late Than Never

Posted by Sharkey

If you read Martha’s blog, then you know that she was home one day, a couple of weeks ago, partaking in a photo shoot for her magazine, Martha Stewart Living.  I was going through our blog photos and I realized that Franny and I forgot to post about that day.  So, here it is – better late, than never.

Hi Anthony! Franny and I have arrived for the photo shoot. You know, you always make Martha's hair look so nice. Do you think our hair needs some touching up?

Franny, you assist the photographer and I'll go and help Martha. Here we are, Martha darling. How can I best help you?

Dig a hole? I love digging holes! I'll be happy to help with this one for the new dogwood tree that you're planting.

Whew! I could have really used Franny's help for that task - speaking of which - where is that Frenchie?

Franny, I don't see you anywhere!

Sharkey, I'm over here in this clearing. I just don't feel like being a photo assistant today.

I'd rather be exploring things like these delicate wildflowers.

Franny, I have an idea. Come with me for a little stroll down the carriage road. You never know what we'll find.

Say, these little acorns are kind of tasty - crunchy and nutty and probably full of fiber. I think those squirrels are onto something.

Darn! Martha's calling us. I guess the photo shoot is over and it's time move on. We'll have to find another acorn tree closer to home.

OK Anthony. Just lift me with your big, strong arms into the Kawasaki. Martha said it's time to visit the donkeys. Oh, goody!

Anthony - watch that muscular arm on the electric wire and watch your fingers, too! Those donkeys have some mean chompers!

Hey Clive, Rufus, and Billy - have you ever eaten acorns? I've heard that other large mammals, such as pigs, bears, and deer consume large amounts of them.

They're really quite tasty and I'll ask Betsy if you can eat acorns. If she says yes, Franny and I will bring you some.

  • Good Morning F & S

Have to say I've never tried an acorn I don't think we have any of those in our yard. We do have lots of pinecones ever try one of those? I don't think they would be tasty since they have that sticky sap stuff on them.

I had such a nice day yesterday mom was suppose to play in a golf tournament and because of the rain she ended up staying home it was wonderful. We cooked a potroast and I got to have some at dinner and boy was it yummy. I love the carrots the best mom slips me pieces under the table. I have to say when that is cooking I'm just hungry all day because it smells so good. Then she organized all her cook books and recipes she cuts out of all her magazines while I sat on her lap :) I noticed there were lots from Everyday Food and your moma's magazine, my mom sure does love to cook.

Another rainy day today but I don't mind I think I'll catch up on my beauty rest.

  • Hello Ladies,
That photo shoot looks tiring, but at least you got to see the donkeys. Be careful on what kind of nuts you eat. Make sure they are the acorns or edible things. Mom knew a lab of her friend's that ate a nut at a campground and went to heaven after that. Do any of you know what kind of nut it might have been? It has been a long time and Mom cannot remember. Some are not so safe, I guess. Mom and I were busy yesterday getting her card orders (the handmade ones she sells) packaged and ready to deliver. After they are delivered today we are going to concentrate on wrapping up the yard and gardens for winter. No rain here. I wish we would get some. It is still quite hot--89. YUK!! I am ready for the snow and frost. Have a great Tuesday all.

    Love & licks,
    Basil

  • Acorns, Sharkey? Do you think they're sharkolicious? Hmm...I like pistachios, so maybe I'll try one. Maybe I'll try roasting it on a stick with a marshmallow, for a slightly sweet finish. Yes! Later...

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
Never been to a photo shoot, but I’m willing to try. Seems as if you have to do a lot of work just for one, or two, pictures. Maybe they would let me hold the white “thingy” for them. My mommy gets the camera out often and I have been known to pose for some pictures. I then “post” them on my Facebook page. I have been working really hard earning my “dog scout” badges. Yeah, I am in the “dog scouts” now after being in the “pup scouts” for a while. I like the outdoor experiences most of all. Time for a nap after my morning walk. Yep, no rain this morning.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • Hi girls this is Cherry ,Rocky and Bo are having sweet birthday dreams as I'm sure Basil is!You girls have such restraint, I would have been barking my head off at the donkeys! But I would have tried the acrorn too. Mommy is so busy getting the toys made for the boys birthday and the puppy packs for the pups leaving next week. It's raining and I really don't like getting my feet wet,two days in a row!Have a fun day everyone. Cherry

  • Boy Sharkey, you and Francesca are so busy with all your media responsibilities lately. I'm sure MommyMartha appreciates the assistance. You may be excited to see the donkeys but they may have other thoughts about that.

Did GK make an appearance too? I bet he's still discovering new things to see and smell on the farm.

  • Sharkey and Francesca you two are so proficient! everything you do is always spot on...kudos!

The deer and many animals and birds eat the acorns that have fallen in our yard, then of course the squirrels and chipmunks have a need to bury the nuts, and with all the room in the backyard and woods, they choose my potted plants...go figure!

  • Hi Girl Friends &G.K., You two girls sure do look cute in these great photos!! How nice you decided to help Martha plant that dogwood tree. I have never eaten an acorn before, but we have hundreds that fall from out tree every year. The problem is they are never fully developed because the birds and squirrels knock them down before they are fully grown. The squirrels also steal the hazel nuts and black walnuts before they are fully developed. At least they don't bother most of my Mom's vegetables. Sure was fun to see Clive, Rufus and Billy again! They are pretty cute, also! Have a great day everyone! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • Hi Francesca and Sharkey: Gosh, I've never tried acorns before. Momma would probably have a cow if I tried to eat one. You two lead such interesting lives - always outside having fun and exploring without your leashes on. When momma and daddy adopted me from the beagle rescue they were told never to let me out without my leash unless it was a fenced in area cause I would run into the woods and it would be almost impossible to get me back to them. I am a scent dog and always on the alert for new smells and stuff.

Well, momma said she only has two more working days then it is retirement city. I hope we are not moving to a city named retirement. I like it right where I am! I can hardly wait until momma is home with me and daddy all day long.

Well, time for an afternoon nap. Take care. See ya later. Love, Gracyn.

  • Hello Ladies,
Love your Daily Wag and your new show Chew it Over! Congratulations! You make me smile.
