"Ancient Chinese Secret"
Posted by Pia
Having furry kids is not always smooth sailing, but I guess that is what parenting is all about, really. My little Minnow whom you recently met has what seems to be some discomfort in her lower back and legs. Needless to say we have been to every specialist under the sun and Minnow has even started getting acupuncture! I'll let her tell you all about it....
1 I'm ok most of the time. I love to take walks and play with my siblings...all that is fine
2 But when I sit down to rest or go night night, my legs start twitching something fierce...right out from under me!
3 I toss and I turn to get comfortable. I even get up and dig to try and make a comfortable spot...
4 It's exhausting and makes it hard to get any rest! I whimper a lot when it happens, which makes my mom look sad and worried.
5 We've been to lots of vets. I just started seeing Dr. Annie at Animal Wellness Centers. She is nice, and I can tell she really wants me to feel better!
6 Dr. Harvilicz -- that's Annie -- took a long time watching me and talking to my mom. I overheard her say that she thinks I'm the cutest doggie ever....
7 She does something called a-Q-punk-chur (acupuncture)...
8 It's Chinese. It means she puts tiny pins in me to help me get balloons... or balance... or something like that.
9 It's kinda weird, and I was super scared at first. But I trust my mom and Annie, so I let them do it. The big pin on my head is for relaxing me.
10 She even puts tiny needles in my feet and knees! Annie says she uses the teensiest needles because I'm soooo little.
11 My mom sits on the floor with me when Annie does it, and she holds my paw....
12 I think Annie must put about a million pins in me! She told us they help with "wind" or something....I dunno. It's Chinese .
13 My mom says I'm really brave about it all. Sometimes I'm so brave that I can't even feel it! It's really not so bad at all!
14 To tell you the truth, it actually relaxes me a lot! I don't twitch, and I get to take a nap in my mama's lap....
15 Dr. Annie leaves the needles in for I dunno how long... because I'm fast asleep when she comes back! My mom stays with me the whole time.
16 Sometimes after the pins, Mom and me go to lunch in Sanna Moniga (Santa Monica). We're very L.A.... ladies lunching after acupuncture and all....
17 Then I get to go home and cuddle up to my siblings. I hope this pin thing makes my twitches go away. I like Dr. Annie, but the twitches are no fun.
Thank goodness for Dr. Annie Harvilicz. She clearly knows her craft and cares a great deal about her patients. She also cares about the environment and animal welfare overall; Annie donates much of her time to spay/neuter efforts and to help those who cannot afford to get proper veterinary care for their furry family. Minnow is very impressed by this and tells all of her friends about it!
Dr. Annie founded Animal Wellness Centers (AWC) after witnessing firsthand the dire need for health-care reform in veterinary medicine. Because of this, she developed the AWC integrated approach to animal wellness. I like that she is able to assess issues and treat symptoms by drawing on a number of perspectives.
Annie has worked with rhinos, pandas, elephants, other endangered species, and now my 3 lb 11 oz. Minnow -- Thanks, Annie!
I'm sure Minnow will keep you all posted on her progress!
