Advice From Meindert, the Horse
Posted by Sharkey
As you know, I have been feeling quite dejected about making friends at the farm. It seems that no one, except Francesca and G.K. and the horses want to be with me. I decided to trot down to the stable and have a word with Meindert. He is always such a sage and I feel a lot better now.
1 Hi there, Meindert. It seems like I'm having a little trouble lately with other animals on the farm. They just don't want to be my friends.
2 For example, the cats don't want anything to do with me.
3 And even the red canaries tuck their heads under their wings when I saunter into the brown room to say hello to them.
4 What do you think is going on? This makes me so upset that I could cry!
5 Sharkey! Get a grip! This isn't so hard to figure out.
6 Have you ever heard of an order of mammals called carnivora?
7 Let me explain - Sharkey, I am a horse and I am what is called an herbivore. My teeth have adapted quite nicely to chew on all sorts of grasses, which is what we horses like to eat.
8 We are large animals, but we don't eat meat.
9 You carnivores have very impressive teeth designed for grabbing, ripping, tearing, and shredding. By the way, I've seen you in action. Your stunts are no secret around the farm.
10 Need I say more, Sharkey? All those other animals are just plain scared of you! However, here's the plus side. You're kind of at the top of the food chain!
