Hiking With Martha in Maine

Posted by F&S

Two days ago, we told you about the wonderful boat ride we had up in Maine.  We also went for a really beautiful hike along the water’s edge.  Martha is always so energetic and she really loves hiking.  However, it was kind of a challenge keeping the others up to pace.

Ahhh! Another glorious day in Maine. Martha most likely will want to go for a hike.

Right on schedule! Martha always loves a good hike - especially in Maine. Where to Martha?

I guess this sign means that we shouldn't feed the wildlife - otherwise they will rely on humans and Frenchies to feed them and won't know how to fend for themselves.

It's always so interesting to hike along the rocky shore in Maine - the ocean breeze is very refreshing.

Hey Franny, let's give the hikers a rest! They look like they're lagging.

  • So that's how you two keep your girlish figures, intense hiking! I bet everyone thought they were going to have a meandering, casual walk...HA! not with Martha or the two of you.

Did you get a nice paw massage after hiking over those rocks? Guess the hiking was too much for GK and all that fur at this time of year. Hope everyone has a beautiful, sunny weekend.

  • What splendid pictures. I love hiking along the coastlines of Maine with my cocker, Dexter. One of the most Fido friendly states in the nation IMO.

  • F & S I'll tell ya you two have the life. Boat rides and hikes in Maine, dinner parties on the beach at Lily Pond chasing farm animals in Bedford what more could a Frenchie ask for! On Martha's blog she has a picture of Uncle Carlos taking you for a walk he sure is a good guy and must love you all very much.

Well TGIF!! Was this week long or what? Mom has an early meeting today but told me she would be home right afterwards I can't wait :) Maybe we'll work in the garden and I can roll around in the soft grass and chew sticks - so much fun.

    Enjoy your weekend everyone!!

  • Dear Friends,
I am sorry I have been out of touch for several days. It looks like you girls have been having fun hiking and seeing the ocean. I have never seen the ocean in person.

You see, I haven't been able to blog because I lost my best friend ever, Tasha on August 4th. Just writing now, I have to take a deep breath and take my paw to my eye and wipe the tears. I feel so empty without her. Mom won't remove her dish yet and I keep checking it in case she comes around the corner. Sometimes I think I hear her too. We have taken care of her for 6 weeks, since her splenectomy. I have been on such a duty of caring for her and cheering her up (although the doctor said she wasn't in pain), that now it is very hard even to function. I slept through dinner hour last night and didn't even hear when Dad came home. I am so glad the family was with her in her final hours. It was hard for me to get too close, but everyone was with her to her last breath, loving and stroking her. The doctor was on call to come, but didn't get here in time. I think that was better for Tasha. Dad and my Uncle had carried her outside so she could have all her favorite smells around her, and I think that was good. I LOVE and MISS you Tasha girl and will always remember our fun times, like playing tug of war.

    Love and licks,
    Your best pal Basil

  • Which mountain was that? Was it in the Park? So far this year I hiked Gorham and Bubble. I go super fast up the mountains and really slow down.

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
I love to hike but I sometimes find myself in trouble doing so. I have to check out where other dogs have been and try to put my “mark” over theirs. I sometimes get so tied up with that, I don’t get to see much along the way. I sometimes have to walk right beside my daddy on a short leash. My mommy can’t hike very far, so most of my longer hikes is with daddy. We are expecting more thunderstorms today. Most likely will get one of those “zoned out” pills to keep me calm. Before that it’s nap time. Have a good weekend all.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • Francesca, You and Sharkey look like you're having a great time....cooling in the shade!

  • Your babies are adorable! My sister and I live in Seal Harbor and hope that some day our babies (staffies!) will get to meet yours.

  • Hi everyone: WoW! It sure would be nice to go hiking all day with you two and Miss Martha. Miss Martha could probably out hike all of you too. She is really in shape just like me. I bet it was alot cooler than where I live. Did all of you have a nice lunch too?

I have been gone for a few days to Lynaire Deluxe Kennel. Stayed in a really nice room too. Daddy had to go to Greenville to a derma, dermat. Oh for heaven's sakes momma said just say skin doctor. The doctor took two skin cancers from my daddy's head. I was worried about the top of his head and of course just like Kirby Bear, I tried to let him know that there was something wrong there. Momma said that the doctor got all of it and he is okay now. Must go back next week and have the stitches taken out. Ouch, I don't like stitches!

It is super hot today and it might storm this afternoon and evening. I hope that my parents know that I will protect them from the lightning and thunder boomers (even though it scares me alot).

Well, it is time for me to have an afternoon nap. Have a great weekend everyone and drink your water. Take care. See ya later. Love, Gracyn.

  • Hope you packed a nice trail mix to enjoy!

Next time on your way back from Maine, stop in NH and say hello.

    Love you both

  • I truly enjoy anything that shows the beauty of Maine. I live in so. California but was born and raised in new york. Maine is my favorite place. I very much enjoyed seeing Skylands on Martha's show today and enjoyed the hike there as well. Thanks!!

  • whew...I was exhausted just looking at the hiking pictures...actually I'm tired cause I did Plein Air painting all day in a quaint and beautiful town named Oconomowoc WI.... guess what? I saw two Frenchies today, the same color like you guys.
That Ocean shore in Maine would be an ideal place to paint Plein Air...ahh maybe someday.
Have a great weekend..I'll be painting all next week!

  • Hi Girl Friends & GK, Sure wish I could go on that fun hike with you. I just love going for long walks and checking out everything I see. For some reason, on Friday, I woke up with some pain in my back and my back legs were sore. I couldn't climb up on anything or jump down as usual. My Mom took me to the vet and I had some strained muscles that were causing the pain. Had to have a shot-ouch. Will have to take it easy for about a week and go back to the vet to see if I'm better. Kind of boring, but it is easy to just relax. Take care and have fun. Love Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • I plan on retiring in Maine. Its so beautiful there.
