Driving an Edsel to the Party

Posted by Ghenghis Khan

Today on Martha’s blog, she has written all about the International One-Design party that she hosted at Skylands, our home in Maine.  I am usually invited to all of Martha’s parties, so I couldn’t understand why I was left all alone.  I just had to find that gathering, being the party animal that I am.

Where is everyone? I heard something about a party for sailors. Did someone forget that I like parties, too? Why was I left behind?

I'm usually a very obedient dog, and I wait patiently for Martha's lead. However, today, I'm going to assert myself and take action.

Into the woods! Into the woods I go, but I don't see any party here.

Wow! This is breath-taking and I could sit and reflect on the meaning of life all day. But, truth be told, I like to be with people! I want to party!

Hmmm - I've driven the Kawasaki and I've driven the John Deere tractor back in Bedford. How hard could it be to take a little spin in this Edsel? Now I remember hearing that the party was down at the stable.

Wheeee!!! This long driveway is a lot of fun! I'll be at the stable in no time at all.

Oh, Martha, my dear! Am I interrupting something? I know, it's not every day that a Chow Chow arrives at a party in an Edsel! I'll get some paella and you carry on with your speech.

  • G.K., I hope you did not drink and drive. Of course not. You are too smart to do something that foolish.
I bet it was so serene being in the woods all alone.
    Glad you found the party.

  • Poor G.K. not invited to the party did Franny and Sharkey get to go? If they went then you have every reason to be upset.

That Edsel is one cool car. My mom has a 65 Mustang that her dad bought brand new for her mom. My dad restored the car a few years ago and it looks brand new now. I've never taken that for a spin but that might be something I'll have to try. Mom doesn't like to drive it because it doesn't have power steering she said it's like driving an 18 wheeler.

Another hot humid day here in South Jersey. I have to tell you I'm really getting sick of this weather. I'm not looking forward to the cold but we sure could use a break from this heat.

I just finished helping mom water all the pots on the deck so I'm pooped. Every year she says she is going to cut back on the flowers but she doesn't it seems to expand!!

    Have a good day.

  • Dear Ladies & G.K.,
How awful getting left behind. You did the correct thing in asserting yourself and getting there on your own. However, did you get grounded? There must have been a reason to leave you alone--maybe someone was allergic to Chows. However the escape was worth it!!

We were busy around here yesterday. It seems Mom's way to deal with the loss of Tasha is to keep busy. She is cleaning out everything. I just watch and nap.

I want to thank Franny, Sharkey, G.K., and all my Daily Wag friends for all your support, love and prayers during these last 6 weeks with caring for Tasha. Always know how special you all are for helping me get through this very difficult time.

    Love & licks,
    Basil

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
Err, you too GK. Not getting to go to a party is not the best thing for you. I don’t get to go to too many parties myself. It seems that I attract too much attention and the reason for the party is almost forgotten. I haven’t driven an Edsel myself and really don’t want to. Just give me the keys to the Mustang any day Zoe, and we’ll take a ride. I did manage to drive a tractor. Had problems with the gears. Got it stuck in reverse and un-plowed half an acre before the farmer could stop me. Hang in there Basil. Keep your tail up and thoughts on the good things about Tasha.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • G.K I'm sure it was not an intentional left behind...I'd rather be in the woodsy area by myself and enjoy that beauty then go to a crowded event...but then that's just me.
I have always wondered what were they thinking when they designed the Edsel????

  • Hey GK

I have an Edsel too! A 1958 Ford Edsel Ranger.

She runs like a dream! :)

  • Hi G.K., Man, you are one very intelligent and talented Chow Chow and I certainly respect all that you do! To be able to figure out where everyone else went when you were left alone at Skylands is incredible! I love your photos of the area around your home,Skylands. The woods look inviting! How long did it take you to get to the stable?! I'll bet the paella was delicious! Sure would love to be there with you and have some food! Say Hi to F&S and Martha. Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • Aww you look so cute by the side of the drive GK. Reminds of the Rollins Stones song, "Waiting for A Friend." Where were Franny and Sharkey by the way. That certainly would have been a head spinner to see a Chow Chow and two Frenchies pull up in an Edsel. The look on MommyMartha's face would have been priceless.

  • Oh GK you are a beauty. What a fun place to hang out, Skylands. You are one lucky dog, I'd go and explore until Martha had to come and find me.
I saw one of the Pet Smart commercials this week it was fun to watch.
