Yesterday, Franny and I blogged about how hot it’s been outside at the farm.  Because of the intense heat, Martha wants us to spend most of the day inside so that we don’t get over heated.  To entertain ourselves during this confinement, we decided to shoot our own baking show.  We set up the necessary equipment and let it roll.

Welcome, fans!  My first dessert today will be a gorgeous pavlova - a meringue-based dessert named after the Russian ballet dancer Ánna Pávlova.

To start, I must break and separate several eggs.  The whites need to be beaten stiffly for the meringue.  Good thing we have such farm fresh eggs to use.

Look at this gorgeous pavlova.  These knives will weigh down the parchment paper so that it won't blow around in the convection oven.  The meringue needs to be crisp on the outside and marshmallow-like inside.

Next, I'll measure out the flour for the brownies.  It's important to have all of your ingredients mis en place.

I don't know what I'll use it for, but I'll grind some on this microplaner just to enjoy the spicy aroma.

  • Shooting baking show is certainly one way to amuse yourselves. Will this show be a part of your webisodes as well? I bet the three of you would look really cute in Chef hats. :wink:

  • F & S - great idea! Top Frenchie Chef or Hell's Dog House - I love it :) Then a Frenchie Cookbook then your own show on the Food Network. See I should be your manager we could make millions!!! Oh and I would also create your own clothing line with a special F & S logo on every item. I think we need to start working on that soon.

    I can see it now little dog aprons with cute chef hats. I don't know if my mom will allow me to work with knives so I'd have to come up with recipes that don't require chopping. I could always use the food processor I guess. I think my recipes would all include ice cream, I just LOVE ice cream.

    Basil I'm glad to hear you are feeling better. I'm still saying my prayers for Tasha.

    Franny, aren't you just the next Julia Childs? And Sharkey you are an excellent producer. You seem to crack those eggs better than my Mom can crack eggs. Such heavy equipment for a little miss like yourself Sharkey. Yesterday we got a little rest from the heat. It rained lightly throughout the day and is going to rain more today. I can't do alot of cooking right now as Dad has been remodeling the kitchen for 4 months now, and we are in kitchen "hell." But just think of when it is all done and we can bake fresh biscuits for me. Those are the best. Well keep cool everyone and have a great Wednesday.

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
    How did you two know that I have a “sweet tooth”? In fact I have a whole mouth full of them. I don’t get many sweets at all except for one “sugar cookie” after I go and get the mail from the mailbox. I’ll be waiting for your show on cooking to start soon. This is Wednesday and mommy has gone to the store already. She usually goes out on Wednesday morning. This means that the work week is half over at high noon. Sounds like a good title for a western doesn’t it?

    you two Frenchie's are a hoot, always into something, now shooting your own videos...ahhh the talents just go on and on.

    speaking of heat and doggies...yesterday I saw someone walking a tiny Yorkie on a pavement in 90+ degree heat on black pavement...poor little dog was panting and so uncomfortable with the paws touching the pavement...do humans not think of that???

  • Hi Girl Friends, I know how you feel about the heat waves. About 2 weeks ago, we had it in the 90's here for three days and I only went outside in the early morning or after sunset. How fun that you two were able to do some baking in Martha's kitchen. Sharkey, you did a super job filming the delightful cooking that Franny did! If there is a video, I sure would love to see it. It's cooler here now and I love going outside anytime. Hope you two and G.K. continue to stay cool. Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • What does the new puppy eat? I have not found puppy food that does not upset my stomach yet. I am 16 weeks old and they say I'm a Beagle/Lab mix. I have tried Novoderm and Wellness so far, but the only thing that doesn't upset my stomach is free range organic chicken and rice. What does your Chow puppy like to eat?
