Why are They Called Barn Swallows, Anyway?

Posted by F&S

We, Frenchies, were outside the other day just basking in the sun, when along came Vivaldi, the cat.  We have seen the cats do some pretty foolish things, but this maneuver just might take the cake.

If I just climb this ladder, I can peer in and plan my meal....I mean plan my DEAL. Yes, I want to plan my DEAL with their mummy for when I can play with these sweet youngsters.

Don't those cute chicks look delicious?.....I mean, those cute chicks must be waiting to eat something nutritious!

Oh no! - Mummy's back and she doesn't sound too happy.

I'll just slip away and pretend I wasn't even looking.

Hey, I get the point! I just thought that since you're called 'barn swallows,' that you were supposed to be swallowed by me!!! Now I understand!

  • Good Morning F & S

Does that Vivaldi have a screw loose or something? You never go near the nest those moma birds are always close by and they will attack. What he needs to do is wait underneath the nest until they try to fly. There always seems to be one that hits the ground then he'll be served lunch. We have those nasty bluejays in our yard those suckers attack for no reason I don't like those birds.

Well it's another hot one here in South Jersey today. I stayed indoors most of yesterday too humid for me. It's suppose to be like this through Thursday - YUK. It's okay I don't mind mom is at work so I just get my beauty sleep in the air conditioned house. Dad has a hard time breathing on days like this his COPD starts to act up so we watch TV and relax all day.

Basil I'm keeping you and Tasha in my prayers how is she doing today?

  • Hello Ladies,
What Vivaldi is up to sure does show he doesn't have much sense. Give those little guys a chance and then when the fight is fair, go for it Vivaldi. Otherwise just enjoy a sunbath.

As for me I am trying to handle Tasha's security management job in her absence and recovery, but fear I am not as good as Tasha. All I can do is try my best. Everyone visited her yesterday and told me she looks good even though she is shaved alot and has lots of tubes attached to her. They think she might be able to come home today, so I must get back to duty and listen for the phone.

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. I just know with all of you helping me and her that when the test results come back it won't be the bad tumors. Your good vibrations are coming through and I feel stronger today.

    Love & licks,
    Basil

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
It is beginning to look as if I’m right about cats are for chasing. Even the birds chase them. Mommy had a cat one time that was chased by a bird every day. One day mommy saw the cat laying on it’s back in the middle of the yard. It laid there for a while then would jump up quickly. After doing this for a few days, mommy found some bird feathers near the tree the bird always sat on. The cat was practicing it’s attack of that bird and did catch it. Vivaldi, that’s what you have to do to catch a bird. Lay still on your back until he dives you and grab him with your front paws. One has to prove how smart one is to get along in this world. As for me, I’m plenty smart. (or maybe not; daddy)
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • Vivaldi, Vivaldi what are you up to??? not a smart move when those mommie swallows dive bomb you...I got one of those Wind sock Owls and put it up in the barn, it kept the swallows out of the stalls...I also put plastic snakes on the beams in the barn, it worked as well...but outside, I let them nest cause they eat bugs.

want to share a real stupid law...here at home they past a "leash law for cats" because people did not want them in their yards chasing birds...absurdity at its best! let's put a leash on the Red Tail Hawks, the Fox and Coyotes as well, they chase the birds. geesh!

  • I see Vivaldi's been dipping into that premium grade kitty hooch Mommy Martha grows on the farm again. He's Mr. "I'll-show-those-barn-swallows-a-thing-or-two" Vivaldi. It's all fun and games until momma bird gets you in her sights and then BAM!

Basil, I hope Tasha gets to come home today too. You're doing the best job as acting security management you can and that's what counts.
