What's Down the Squirrel Hole Anyway?

Posted by Francesca

Sharkey and I were outside yesterday when quite suddenly, a very strange sensation came over us.  It was almost savage and we wanted squirrel.  Hunting is fun but it is also difficult.  Good thing we are fed on a regular basis.

Oh dear! What's happening to me? I'm transforming into a ferocious huntress. I just got a whiff of SQUIRREL!

Those squirrels are around here somewhere! I just know it!

Hey squirrels! Are you up there? We're gonna get you!

Francesca, I see a hole up there! Let's climb the tree and inspect.

Very, very interesting!

I can't seem to fit!

Do you think it leads to another dimension? A squirrel dimension, perhaps?

Oh Franny, I don't know if I want to go into a squirrel dimension. What if the squirrels are giant sized there and come after us, instead?

Francesca, I think we should get away from here FAST!!!!

No Sharkey, your fears are unwarranted - I must find a way in! I'll just gnaw around the opening.

Well that didn't taste good. I need a drink of water. Why is climbing up always easier than getting down?

Silly Frenchies - when will they learn that all they need to do is sit and wait patiently for their prey? That's all it takes and I'll show them that I'll be the one feasting tonight!

  • YOU GO GIRLS!!! I hate those darn squirrels they drive me crazy. Add that to the moles, voles and chipmunks and it's enough to drive a Frenchie to drink!

T-Bone caught a squirrel once chewed it to shreds, none of us cared to eat the squirrel we'd rather have our meals from mom. My only successful hunt was a mole, took some time but I finally got it. I was so happy I carried it up to mom to inspect. She thought it was a piece of mulch and when she grabbed it from my mouth screamed because it wasn't mulch - good trick :)

Does G.K. hunt? He doesn't seem like the hunting type more of the lounge dog. I agree with the furball E.T. just sit a wait near a hole they come out eventually then ATTACK!!!

    Happy Hunting

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
I don’t have to hunt for the squirrels around here; they just come to my house looking for a handout. What they find instead is a mouth full of teeth on four feet which can run fast. I haven’t caught one of them yet. They seem to be able to take a short cut to the fence. I do get close enough to pull some of the fur out of their tails. Yesterday one ran up a tree and just laughed at me. Made me so mad I stood and barked at him. I usually don’t bark, but I was really mad. Mama called me back inside where it was cooler. She said I needed to “chill” for a while. I took a nap instead.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • WOW you girls will do just about anything! climbing a tree???? no fear of height, or being bitten on the nose sticking it into a squirrel's house? you two just amaze me all the time...Kitty climbs trees and goes whatever is up there, but I don't allow her to catch any of the critters she goes after, sometimes I fail, guess she is just being a cat...

  • There needs to be a great video of the two of you turning from sweet Frenchies into daring, Frenchie huntresses, complete with spooky music!

I'm impressed that you two can climb trees so well. Is there part cat in you? Just keeping up with the three of you must be a full time job on the farm but I'd do it in a heartbeat.

  • They are the most precious poochies Martha. Tank and Tanner,
are trying there best to get the lizards. Tank, is our lab/newfie and Tanner is our golden/lab.

  • Hi Girl Friends, My goodness, this sure was a fun blog you did today! I like to chase squirrels, too, but can never seem to reach them. How did you two climb that tree?! I didn't see a ladder or even brother G.K. You'll have to show us how you got up there. I sure wouldn't want to put my nose in that hole on the branch or even my foot. Heaven only knows what's in there. Maybe you should listen to the kitty. Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • Hello Ladies,
Sorry so late to sign on today--computer problems. I know the feeling on hunting those darned squirrels. They love to tease Tasha and I on our bridge over a ditch. I say tease because there is a gate before the bridge, so those squirrels know we can't get to them unless the gate is open. Have any of you ever had trouble with your pancreas? Poor Tasha was at the vet's yesterday having all sorts of tests done, and they came back saying she has pancreatitis. Nothing too bad I guess, after she has to eat blah rice for 5 days. Dad has to stop giving her any people treats. That can make it worse I guess. She will be o.k. I am glad. I sure did miss her when she was gone for the 5 hours yesterday during her testing.
    Love & licks,
    Basil
