G.K. Stops to Smell the Peonies

Posted by Ghenghis Khan

As you know, Martha likes to grow all kinds of flowers and she is especially fond of her peony bed.  In fact, I am told that she hosts a peony party every spring just to show them off.  I’ve been trying to learn about everything growing on the farm so I went to study the garden where the peonies bloom.  I wish I could share with you just how great they smell.

Martha's peonies are in full bloom and they look amazing! I need to go and see them.

Martha has told me that peonies are impressive to look at and that they are excellent in flower arrangements.

If you don't have peonies in your garden, then you are really missing out!

This bloom is especially fragrant.

It's also a perfect specimen! I wish I knew how to paint.

Ahhh.....This scent reminds me of that fancy French perfume Martha wears.

She should make her very own peony fragrance.

OMG there's nothing like the heady bouquet of peonies! I could just sit here all day and soak it in.

  • Good Morning G.K.

I agree with you there is nothing that smells as beautiful as a Peonies. The Peonies at our house finished blooming but now our Magnolia Tree is starting to pop that smells really good too.

Thank you Gracyn and Sonya for your kind words about my dad and yes that COPD is really nasty stuff. He walked around the yard with me yesterday picking up "doggie gems" but has to take it easy. He is really weak right now but we're hoping he'll start to get his energy back soon.

I have to tell you all that I'm so tempted to chew the clear tubing that runs from the oxygen machine to my dads bedroom. He left it lay on the floor last night and I so wanted to just grab it and run around the house. You know I love to do that with toilet paper and this seems even cooler. Mom told him to make sure he coils it up and puts it away in the morning I hope he remembers because it's calling me ;)

  • Hi GK
Can you please tell me - does Martha cut the "old spent bud" off her peonies once they stop blooming? Or should you leave them on for some period of time?

Thanks cutie! I sure wish I could touch your soft fur.

  • Hello Ladies & G.K.,
G.K., you look so majestic amongst the peonies, and I bet they do smell great. It sure does seem that you are getting to know the farm very well. I bet it is nice having Mama Martha back from her trip. Do you get to sleep with her now that she is home? Bet you are getting hot these days and only venturing out in the early morning. Mom is paniced about Tasha, but has to wait a half hour to call the vet's. You see Tasha refuses to eat. She had her heart worm pill yesterday and that scares Mom also. Zoe, I read this morning about your Dad and you better behave and look after him and not chew up his oxygen cord. You and your Mom are right to get rid of those nasty cigarettes. You take good care of him and no tube eating. Give hime a lick from me. Keep cool everyone.
    Love & licks,
    Basil

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
Hay GK! That’s the way they greet friends in the south. I’ll bet you could really smell the peony’s really good while standing in the garden. They are so strong smelling I can almost smell them now. Mama doesn’t have any of them growing but she does have some flowers which have really big ball looking blooms. I don’t know what they are called but they are bright blue. The blooms are so heavy they almost bend down and touch the ground. Maybe they are bending over so I can smell them; yeah, that’s it. I’m the king of my yard and they are bowing down to me. Whoa, that sounds good.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • Wow, G.K. you are getting BIG. I mean, I would be flatter than a crepe if you sat down on little me! Thanks for the info about peonies...I'm sure they smell better than the donkeys on Martha's farm! Bye.

  • Oh my G.K., you are looking more and more like your granddaddy every time I see you and you are most definitely a sweetie just like him. I feel good just looking at you so thanks for popping in from time to time and thanks to sweetie pies Franny & Sharkey for letting you share their blog! I bet you smell nice after your visit to the peony garden!

  • Hello GK you gorgeous big fluffball you. You certainly do look handsome and so much like your great grandfather Paw Paw sitting amongst the peonies. I bet you're having the time of your life playing on that magnificent farm of yours.

I think it's almost time for you to have your own photo with your big sisters and Dr. Pia on the blog. Maybe an official 'Welcome to the blog GK' ceremony.

Zoe you must resist with all your little Frenchie fiber the desire to chew that tube. Take care of daddy is your battle cry.

Basil, sending good thoughts your way to your sister Tasha hoping that she will be fine.

  • Hi G.K., How nice that you are posting more and more blogs. I love reading everyone's blog and seeing the beautiful pictures. All three of you do great, fun blogs all the time. I sure would love to be with you out in the peony bed so I could have fun being with you and smelling the lovely peonies. You sure do live on a nice farm and are learning so many wonderful things because you do live there. Have a good day and say Hi to the girls. Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+

  • Hi GK: Boy, you sure are in the pictures alot these days. I see you like those pretty flowers. Momma told me that many years ago she tried to grow peonies but they did not turn out too good. But, we now have a gigantic gardenia bush that momma and daddy bought over 20 years ago as a baby plant. It is blooming now and I can smell those flowers every time daddy takes me potty in the yard.

Zoe - Resist the urge to play with your daddy's oxygen tube. Momma said it is very important so that your daddy can breath as easy as he can.

I myself like to get hold of momma's slippers; not the old ones she gave to me to play with, but the new ones she has and won't let me touch. HAHAHAHAHA! I also can't resist the urge for paper bags either, so I understand your....oh, what does momma say...ummmmm oh yeah, the word "dilemma."

GK - You would be fun to chase around my fenced-in backyard. We could have such a great time.

Well, it's time for my dinner. Take care. See ya later. We all love you Zoe! Love, Gracyn.

  • G.K.
You are a magnificient boy, so docile and beautiful, a true credit to the Chow Chow breed. The pictures of you in your mother's garden are so serene and peaceful looking. I am sure you are having the best time exploring the garden this summer. Thank you for sharing your puppyhood with us. I look forward to hearing more about you and your wonderful family in the future.
    Love,
    Mona
