Words and Wet Noses

I love the emails I receive from readers! One of my favorite parts is the great animal quotes attached to the bottom of your messages. They reflect the many reasons we love and appreciate our fellow creatures.

I thought it'd be fun to share these words of wisdom, as well as some photos of adopted animals who have happily found their way into loving homes. Enjoy!

2 "Dogs have owners, cats have staff." -- Anonymous

3 "The one absolutely unselfish friend that man can have in this selfish world, the one that never deserts him, the one that never proves ungrateful or treacherous, is his dog." -- George Graham Vest

4 "When I play with my cat, who knows whether she is not amusing herself with me more than I with her." -- Montaigne

5 "You can say any foolish thing to a dog, and the dog will give you a look that says, 'My God, you're right! I never would've thought of that!'" -- Dave Barry

11 "If you pick up a starving dog and make him prosperous, he will not bite you. It is the principal difference between a dog and a man." -- Mark Twain

13 "A house is not a home without a pet." -- Anonymous

14 "There is nothing in which the birds differ more from man than the way in which they can build and yet leave a landscape as it was before." -- Robert Lynd

15 "There is no psychiatrist in the world like a puppy licking your face." -- Ben Williams

While a picture can convey a thousand words, a well authored quote can capture a complex sentiment in few words.

I invite you to keep your quotes, photos and stories coming! With your permission, I'd love to include them in future posts. There is no end to the ways in which we can celebrate our love for these special souls!

In kinship,
Dr. Pia Salk

I love the one that reads a house is not a home without a pet. Especially if you are fortunate enough to have at least one Frenchie :) Don't get me wrong the Labs are great too but I'm just so sophisticated and cute I just can't help it.

Mom says her kids (us dogs) give her unconditional love and no matter how bad her day was at work when she comes home and we jump all over her and bark because we are happy to see her she forgets about everything. I know we make her happy, she'll be sitting in her rocker out on the deck and have a smile on her face while we are playing. Then she goes for the camera and starts clicking away. She thinks Sophie the yellow lab smiles, she squints her eyes and lifts her head up - strange behavior but if it makes mom happy that's all that counts.

We all love our mom and dad they are the best.

Thanks Dr. Pia for all you do to try and find good homes for all those less fortunate.

  • Hi Dr. Pia,
Those photos and quotes are really cute. We have lots of books like that around our house. Mom and Dad said it was so sad when Tasha got adopted and now lives with us, because they wanted to adopt every animal they saw at the shelter. You need some Frenchie photos like "me." Take care Dr. Pia and friends. Have a great week.
    Love & licks,
    Basil

  • Hi Dr. Pia, Once again you did a fabulous blog. I love all of these precious photos of wonderful animals. Being 'animalloverjan' I absolutely love all animals and can't imagine being without at least one in my home. Whenever I take my little Dudley Do Right for a walk, we always meet or see other animal friends. I always talk to each one and they wag their tail or meow back to me. Dudley loves them all and I do, too. My little DDR always seems to know what I'm talking about. When I say we are going for a walk, he goes right to the door and waits for me to follow him. He's a really fun dog. My part time cat, Bogie looks just like the cat in photo #13. He talks to me whenever he wants attention. Great pets! Jan
