Exploring the Hoop House

Posted by F&S

We, Frenchies, noticed that the hoop house's door was open the other day, so we decided to go in and have a look.  Voila!  That's where all the beautiful tropical plants that grace the sunken garden have been stored for the cold months of winter.  We love those tropical specimens and we can't wait for the warm weather that they also love.

Sharkey, let's check out the hoop house. I think this is where all of the tropical plants from the sunken garden have been stored for the winter. I can't wait for them to be brought out of here.

Succulents! Don't these look like little manicured human fingers? How hysterical and interesting!

Franny, if you thought those were cool, you would also like these amazing oxalis, the largest genus in the wood-sorrel family Oxalidaceae.

And there are more succulents down here - I remember when these were rooted over the winter by Martha and Shaun.

Martha tells me that this plant, an aloe, can help heal a burn and other skin irritations. Isn't that amazing?

This growth pattern is incredible on this cycad. I think we should get out our paint brushes and use it as the subject for a still life. Isn't Mother's Day coming up soon?

I wonder if this thick elephant ear leaf could support our weight if we sit on it and float on the little streams around the farm?

Sharkey, do you know what this is?

It's a giant agave plant! Martha told me that they make tequila out of agave. This plant is so big, maybe we should go into the business - but what do you use tequila for, anyway?

  • You gals better stay outta there your Mama is going to get you!
Messing around in there might get you sent to the doghouse!
Weather is looking better for you now, so that means lots of play time outside, of course when you aren't working on your blog that is.

    Happy Woof Wednesday,

  • Good Morning F & S

Martha sure does have lots of plants waiting for warm weather. It's chilly this morning in South Jersey mom turned on the heat. I ran out on the deck at 5:30 this morning and all 4 paws went sliding, it was frosty and slick - what the hell!! I thought it was spring!! After I eat I'm getting back in bed with dad so I can snuggle.

Franny those elephant ear plants look like Frenchie ears. I don't think they'll hold our stocky little bodies down the creek I suggest you find a boat.

Well I need to go find a sweater I'm cold, I told my mother not to put the darn things away. Will she ever listen to me???

  • Hi Francesca and Sharkey: Hey, watch out for those sharp leaves of the Agave. Ouch! All those plants look like something I would like to get into and dig around in. My momma would have such a fit if I did. So I will be a good girl and not do anything bad. My mom has her plants protected from the Winter as best as she can, but some don't make it.

I get to go to the vacation deluxe boarding kennel for a few days so I won't be able to write you guys. I'll catch up when I get back. I love it there. I get treated like a queen.

Well, it is cloudy and rainy here today, so I think I will go have a nap. Take care. See ya later. Love, Gracyn.

  • Hello Ladies,
My Mom and Dad have a greenhouse, but it is the size of a bathroom. It mainly houses orchids. You are lucky to see all those succulents. That elephant ear looks really cool, but it could never hold one of our strong muscular Frenchie bodies. I think you girls need to write some kids' books about all your adventures. You could make millions and send it to doggies and kitties that need food and homes. You should really think about it with your writing skills. Have a great day.
    Love & licks,

  • I'm impressed - you Frenchies are as knowledgeable about flora and fauna as Martha, and you're adept at cooking. I won't mention your expertise in computers and internal combustion engines. So, why do you not have a television show? Are you crafts-challenged?
Maybe you should approach Oprah Winfrey about replacing her (it's good to have Oprah on your side). But hey, don't listen to any Muppets that you might encounter in television! They could really mess up your day! At any rate, thanks for the flora lesson! See ya!

  • Hi Girl Friends & GK, The weather at Martha's wonderful farm sure seems to be nice now. Our weather has improved, but we still get rain occasionally and it's still cool at night. I love the hoop house and all of those beautiful tropical plants in there. When will you be helping put them outside again? Did you get to go to the Rainbeau Ridge? It sure is a nice farm, also. Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+
