Hard Work Pays Off

Posted by Francesca

With the arrival of spring, there are so many chores to do around the farm.  You probably know by now that Martha likes to blanket the farm with burlap to protect things from the wind and cold.  Sharkey and I like to help out by removing the burlap from the boxwood hedges.  Come and see how it’s done.

It's so exciting when spring arrives and we finally get to remove all the protective burlap from the boxwoods.

Sharkey, you can gather up all of these stakes.

I'll work on the bamboo supports.

Franny, let me help tie up the bamboo into bundles with this string.

Great, Sharkey! Now I'll just drag the bundle over to the pickup.

  • Hello Ladies,
Looks like a lot of hard work getting Martha's farm ready for spring--does that mean the Easter Bunny too? It is hard to think spring here, as we are expecting more snow today and tomorrow. I hear about 7 or so inches. Another day of rest for old Basil here. I did a sneak jump this morning and boy did I hear about it. No more of that for me. I am a changed man. Resting today, that's all, I promise.
    Love & licks,
    Basil

  • well you Frenchie's are ambitious...good for you!everything looks nice and neat as would be expected at MS's yard/house...look out squirrles!!!

  • Hello Francesca and Sharkey: Looks like the two of you have certainly worked really hard to get things cleaned up and ready for Spring. I hope it's warmer there than it is here.

The wind is blowing and it is sooooo cold. Spring is almost here, but it teased us with a warm weekend and now this!!!! Can you imagine such a thing??? I don't like it when the wind blows so hard. It seems to take all the fun out of walking with my daddy. He doesn't like it either.

Basil - You better do as your momma says. They always seem to know what is best for us. You don't want to hurt even more. Besides, moms spoil us so much when we don't feel so good. They love us so very much.

Well, it is time for me to have a small snack. I think I'll have a sunbath now. Take care. See ya later. Love, Gracyn.

  • That's life on a farm, always chores to be done but everything looks so pretty when they're finally finished. I like how you use use the string and rope to tie the bamboo together, great conservation their ladies.

Franny, you and Sharkey should have had GK out there helping too. Not too early for the little guy to start pitching in and learning chores.

Basil, you be a good boy and behave yourself please. Glad you're feeling well enough to do a sneak jump. I bet your Mom is too but she just can't tell you.

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
You have squirrels in your boxwood? Hay, let me come and help you chase them too. I just love a good chase every now and then; about three times a day around here keeping the squirrels out of the bird feeders. Daddy had to see his doctor this morning; cancer free!!!! That’s a good thing but you bet I’ll be checking him often just in case the cancer comes back. I found it the first time; he’s so glad to have me watching out for him.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • Hi Girl Friends, Sorry I am a day late answering your delightful blog. My Mom, Uncle and I went to a friend's place to get her garden ready for planting. We did a really good job and will go bacl later in the week. I sure love seeing all of the great work you two did there on Martha's farm. You help keep everything nice and neat. I wish I could come and help you sometime. Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO+
