Backstage at "Martha"

Posted by Pia

Last Thursday some of you may have caught me and a few adorable adoptable critters live with Martha on the show. We answered viewer questions and shared some things you might not know about animals commonly found in shelters. What a fun adventure it was!

It must have been while filming this shot that camera man Chris fell in love with Caboose, the redhead on the left. Chris took his wife and son to meet him last weekend and have now adopted him!! Sweet Oreo still need a home though.

As you can see in the mirror, Linda snapped photos and offered lots of moral support! It was so fun to have them both there with me.

Just as our segment was to go live, I learned that due to time limits, we would not be able to show the bunnies and cats we planned to introduce. Oh no! But you can learn about them and all the animals I brought at MarthaStewart.com/Pet-Adoption. (There's a link at the end of this post, too.)

These guys really need homes! Bunnies do best in bonded pairs- Jenny (above) and Johanna (next) already know each other well. But they can also be adopted separately.
Perhaps you have a home for them?

Adopting a bonded pair of buddies is an excellent option for many reasons. Johanna is a big ball of cuddly fur! She is very neat and tidy- and she is house trained already. She and Jenny (previous photo) get along well but can also be adopted separately.See her info at MarthaStewart.com/pet-adoption.

Both Jenny and Johanna were so great in rehearsal, but unfortunately, they did not get their shot in the spotlight :(

Martha even mentioned this blog! She said she enjoys the posts and Franny and Sharkey appreciate having a day off on the days that I do my Daily Wag posts!

We were able to get lots of good info out there on the show but as is the reality with live TV, some of what we planned to cover was cut due to time limits. Including us presenting the adoptable bunnies and cats we had in the studio. I was sad because shelter animals can use all the exposure they can get to find homes. Please be sure to check out their pictures above and their links below!

I’ll be sure to share the valuable information we did not get to cover on the show in next week’s blog! As animal advocates, I want us to be well informed on all of the issues related to our furry friends!

A big thanks to Martha, Barbara, Allie and the rest of the Martha crew for having me on the show. And to Katya and Linda for being such supportive friends!

In kinship,
Dr. Pia Salk

  • Dr. Pia- it looks like a lot of work getting ready for a show but very exciting.

Well guys it's official, Super Nanny is here, bags in hand and mom and dad are taking out luggage. I'm told it's only for a few days so I think I'll manage. We got an extra special breakfast this morning, eggs and bacon with our regular food. Mom always feels guilty when she goes away especially after I hit her with those big DON'T LEAVE ME eyes.

I won't be blogging for a few days unless the mood moves Super Nanny to type for me.

Enjoy this wonderful weather and Basil I'm praying for you that nothing serious is wrong with ya :)

  • Hello Ladies & Dr. Pia,
We were glad to see the the shots of the show and preparations last week as Mom had an appointment and we couldn't watch. You are soooo pretty Dr. Pia. I wish the bunnies had been able to be seen because as we all know people do impulsive things around Easter in buying bunnies and chicks. It looks like it was a very lively show. I am so glad the cameraman adopted Caboose. Everyone have a great day. I have to go rest. Those muscle relaxers for my back make me tired, but I sure don't limp.
    Love & licks,
    Basil

  • Hi Dr. Pia: Just look at all those pups waiting for a "forever" home. I bet plenty of people will adopt them. It would be fun to be on TV I think.

Basil - My mom and dad and me hope that you will be better really soon. Paws are crossed as promised.

It's my 6th birthday today. Sure hope that momma gets me something good at PetSmart and that for dinner, I can have a little burger all to myself. Yummy!

Well, it is cold and rainey. So what else is new around here??? I think I'll take a nap now. Take care. See ya later. Love, Gracyn.

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
Thanks for letting us know about what happens behind the scenes on the show. I’ll be that the animals got a good brushing just like you did in the “makeup” room. Just back from my morning walk. A quick snack and then it’s a nap for me. Then I’ll have lunch and another nap. I’ll get the mail from the box somewhere in there too. That’s the way my day goes most of the time. Have a super Thursday all.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • Hello,
I saw that it was Gracyn's 6th birthday and wanted to say a big "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" to you.
    Love,
    Basil

  • Aww, these animals are all so cute!

  • Dr. Pia, there's a special place for wonderful people like who work tirelessly to help animals in need.

Happy 6th Birthday Gracyn Erwin! Hope you have a fun day even with it raining out. Enjoy that burger.

Basil, my thoughts are with you. I'm praying those muscle relaxers take care of what is bothering you.

  • Here is hoping that ALL the animals will get a new home!
Thank You for doing what you do Dr. Pia

  • Hi Dr. Pia, Thanks for another great, informative blog about adopting wonderful, needy animals. I loved your presence on the 'Martha Show' and you do a great job. Too bad there wasn't more time to show all of the other animals that needed a new home. I think about shelter animals all the time and pray to God they all find loving homes soon. Jan

  • I hope all of these lovely animals find good homes soon. I would take you all in if I had the room, nobody should live a life alone and unloved.

I saw the show and enjoyed seeing the animals and Dr. Pia.

    Gracyn Happy 6th birthday
