Visiting the canaries

Posted by Sharkey

Yesterday, we told you how G.K. went to visit the donkeys and how they became instant friends.  That dog sure has a lot of confidence and isn't bashful one bit.  It's kind of amazing just how curious and friendly he is.  Take a look at this little adventure he went on.

I keep hearing interesting sounds coming from the brown room. There seems to be more animals that I need to meet.

Whatever these things are, they are lovely.

They're nice to look at and they sound pretty.

Hey, you in there. My name is G.K. and I've come to live here. What are you, anyway?

Hello, cute dog. We are birds called red factor canaries. As you can see, we are lively and we love to sing, although we males sing more than the females.

We are very happy living here. Martha has given us a beautiful and spacious cage to fly around in. And we love our natural branch perches.

We love eating seeds and are given a nice variety.

We also get fresh fruits and vegetables every day. I'm partial to blood oranges.

The females among us lay eggs from time to time in those little baskets. I'll whistle for you next time when a baby hatches. They are adorable!

I hope G.K. is being supervised during his visit to the brown room. Martha won't think he's so cute if he decides to treat his puppy teeth to the carpet or chair leg. I'm sure Franny wouldn't mind seeing him get a little "Time Out" in the crate :)

Today I feel like my old self again, I was able to eat my regular food and even got a treat after
breakfast. Now I just have to worry about my sister Sophie and her bad knee. Like Martha said in her blog today it's always something.

Well more snow is on the way tonight - YUK!! I hope that ground hog sees his shadow and spring is just around the corner. I'm ready for SPRING!!!

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
It’s good to see that GK is fitting right in around there. It looks as if he sure does like the adventure he finds each day. He’s still young so you two watch out for him. He’ll grow fast and be able to watch out for you in just a few months. It’s another day of rain around here; hope it stops soon. Daddy went to see his doctor yesterday. Everything is all right. The doctor said that he put the picture of me daddy gave him on his office wall. It’s time for another short nap.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • those red factor canaries are gorgeous! mommie delia use to have many canaries, her cage looked just like the one here...bet they sing beautifully!
now as a feline of course I would sit and salivate in front of a cage, not like you G.K.....you certainly are a sweet fluff of a pup.

  • Good morning GK: I see you get along very well with the canaries and treat them with respect. They like you very much. Although I don't like to eat fruit, it seems like they get the real good stuff.

Zoe, I am glad you are feeling much better. We were all getting a little worried there for a while.

Kirby, I am also glad your daddy's doctor said that he is okay. I know this makes you feel really great. Your picture is on the doctor's wall??? What an honor!

Not too chilly here today. Must go take a nap and then get a sun bath. Oh wait! It's gonna rain this afternoon, oh BLAH!!! See ya later. Love, Gracyn.

  • Hello Ladies & G.K.,
It looks like it was quite the outing over the weekend with the horses. Sharkey, you deserve a little break sometimes. Glad you stayed in and kept warm. Franny has to learn the ropes of being a big sister also. Good though she has the sense to stay away from those horses. One kick and you gals would be goners. Glad G.K. got to meet the canaries. My Mom's Grandma used to raise them in big flight cages she said. All colors and kinds. She said they sang so pretty. Are the orange ones the ones that Marc gave your Mama on the show last week? It looks mighty cold at Martha's farm. Tasha seems to think that it is going to be spring soon as she is getting her spring coat. Mom is giving us both bathes today. Oh joy. They are o.k. I guess. The blow drying is the best. Zoe, glad to hear you are doing better. Was it the flu? And Kirby Bear, so glad your Dad is doing better. That bag thing sounds really bad for him. And you have a picture on his wall--you are a star. Take care everyone, better go Mom is calling for the bath.
    Love & licks,
    Basil

  • Hello CK,

My name is Freddie and I live in the High Atlas mountains of Morocco and I am 10 weeks old too. I am trying very hard not to pee and poo in the house but it is difficult. I think you are beautiful.

  • Gee, in my second life I'm coming back as one of Martha's birds. What a life! :)

  • GK you certainly are one smart and savvy little boy, all at the ripe old age of 10 weeks no less! Very wise of you to meet and charm all the other animals on the farm and get them on your side.

I wouldn't be surprised one bit to see your name on the ballot for the next farm animal election, but keep an eye on that sneaky Vivaldi.

  • Hi Mr. GK, You are looking more handsome as time goes by. I just love seeing how well you do meeting all of Martha's other wonderful animals. I can see how much they are beginning to really care about you, too. Aren't those canaries something special?! Well, are you going to meet all of the kitties next or maybe the geese or chickens?! Which ever you do, I know you will have a fun time! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO

  • Francesca and Sharkey... Whoa, that new dog does not look like a Frenchie. In fact I think that new doggie is going to be huge! Time to step in now and make sure the newbie acts like a Frenchie, or the culture wars will begin at your house! Just a warning woof from me, Raja Traveler!
