Windy and Rainy

Posted by Sharkey

The other day was really windy and rainy. As much as we animals wanted to go outside and play, the weather made that rather impossible. Our new brother, Ghenghis Khan (G.K. for short), wanted to go outside very badly, and I had to give him all the reasons why it would be a bad idea. Martha's right, it feels good being a teacher.

G.K. - just to let you know - it sometimes gets very blowy here at the farm and it can rain a lot!

Just take a look at that soaking wet, muddy field! We couldn't possibly run around in that, without the consequences of needing another bath.

And Vivaldi can attest to just how very windy it gets during these storms.

See those red-tailed hawks circling around up there? They actually like the wind for soaring. Let me warn you, since you are still so small - hawks can swoop down and pick up little creatures with their sharp talons.

Verdi knows to be careful outside.

But Princess Peony doesn't have a clue! Don't even think about it, kitty! You're staying indoors today.

  • I must say Sharkey you and GK have the cutest little butts! Also GK is already out growing you and he is only a wee Chow pup!
Where is Franny girl is she still upset about brother coming home?
It's raining here and so being unable to enjoy my usual sunny days I pouted and rolled my beds yup I have more then one bed into a big ball, and did it to every one of my beds in the house to protest not being able to go outside. Ah ! I feel better now.

Happy Woof Wednesday to you all.

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
I know all about how the rain makes things almost impossible in the outside. When it rains here, I try to stay indoors too. I don’t like to get my feet muddy. When the back yard gets really bad, mommy or daddy will take me out front so I can stay on the sidewalk or the driveway. I have been known to “push” mommy off of the driveway in order to keep my feet dry. Hay, she has on shoes and I don’t. She can take them off when we get back inside. When we travel, I know to come inside and stand on a small rug until I get my feet cleaned. Hope the rain quits for a while for you so you can “go” outside.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • Yes Sharkey we had some nasty weather down here in South Jersey as well, rain and really windy. We didn't go out much only to do our business. The Labs don't mind the rain but I hate it, I don't like the feel of those rain drops hitting my cute face plus I'm not fond of getting my paws wet either.

I was just watching the news with mom while she had her coffee and I see snow is coming later in the week - I'm ready for SPRING!! How many more days Sharkey till we can roll in the green grass and catch some rays reclining on the deck????

So what's up with Franny is she still P-O'd about the new addition?

  • Good morning Francesca and Sharkey: Boy,that wind and rain can really be a bummer. I don't like to step in puddles and get my feet wet either. When daddy brings me in from a walk in the rain, I have to stand on a big older bath towel while he or momma wipes me down - no exceptions. Then I get all excited and run around the house like a crazy pup. Our lawn is like a very wet sponge.

It's good to see that you two are teaching GK the basics of behavior and the forces of nature. I am sure GK will turn out perfect!

Well, time for nap. Take care. See ya later. Love, Gracyn.

  • ahhhh, cute pictures! yeah it rained here the other day making some of the snow melt, then we had an Artic blast...mommie delia was upset cause I stayed out all night, it was almost 0 degrees and then it's dropping to -15 with windchill in a couple of nights..can't wait for Spring to chase chippies and squirrles.
I'm going to go now and curl up on a fur blanket and catch up some sleep

  • Hello Ladies,
It is good to see that you are teaching G.K. all about the farm and life in general, Sharkey. However, I did notice an absentee paw--Miss Franny. I saw how happy you were Franny, at The Toy Chest with Uncle Carlos, I thought maybe you were coming around with the little guy. I know you girls get to sleep with Mama Martha from her bloggings. Bet the little guy doesn't rate that kind of attention. Remember Franny, mold him in your image. Don't stress out Franny, you have a great life. Love ya baby. Zoe are you feeling better today? I'm excited to watch The Martha Show with Mom today as something is in the wind about her and Hallmark. Oh, has anyone heard from Shoeboy, wondering how he is? Have a great Wednesday--snow expected here in Colorado. Take care.
    Love & licks,
    Basil

  • Sharkey, you and GK look so adorable standing at the door gazing out, longing to go romp in the great outdoors. I can't wait to see your blog post when you take him to meet the donkeys. I bet they can't wait!

You must be in a good mood, you even let the furballs join in the fun. Francesca, I see that this must be Day 8 of Operation Boycott Ghengis Khan as you have gone MIA. Don't fret about this sweetie, another pup to play with is 'a good thing.'
Zoe I hope you are feeling better. Kirby Bear, I hope your tooth gets fixed and you are doing much better today.

  • Hi Sweeties,
I got the biggest kick out of all of you taking turns at the door looking out the small window panes. About how many times a day or week does someone have to wipe off little nose and paw prints? LOL. That brings back memories of my two little girls who always wanted to go out when it was raining. I often had to go with them with a big umbrella in tow. Wow, GK is growing up fast! Before you know it, he'll be as big as Paw Paw. I hope you're having lots of fun with him. Catch 'ya later.

  • My new fave word: blowy.

    :)

  • Hi Girl Friends, Sharkey, it is sooo nice to see you being nice and kind to your new little brother, GK. I'm sure that you are teaching him how to be safe when you go outdoors. He probably can handle the cold weather better then us short haired dogs, but I'll bet he listens to you about safety when going outside. Keep up the good work! Love, Dudley Do Right XOXOXO

  • Sharkey,

I find it interesting that you are counseling GK on "proper outdoor time", since you seem to be the OCD frenchy in Martha's house when it comes to skunking! Are you getting ready to "punk" GK?

  • Basil thanks for asking how I'm feeling. Not any better on Wednseday had to go see the Doctor. I keep pooping and vomiting. I was dehydrated and lost 2 pounds so I got a needle and 2 pills to take. My red blood count was a little high but they think that is because I was dehydrated, all the other tests were good. Mom is making me ground beef with brown rice which is really yummy. I hope I feel better soon. Thanks for asking.

    Zoe

P.S. Yes the rabbit Lilly is my cousin. And I don't attack my moma I just don't like the rain and I let her know it when she carries me out. I'd like to go play with Lilly but they won't let me, she looks like a dog tog so I'd probably chew her up :)

  • Oh I left out Sonja - thanks for checking up on me and Kirby Bear good luck with the tooth.

    Zoe

  • This is such a cute picture... we have a very similar one of Loki when Lilith came home... Loki is a 6 year old black chow and Lilith is a 4 year old blue chow. They were both looking out the window, side by side when Lilith was furry little thing like Ghengis... except that Lilith was considerably shorter/smaller than Loki. When Dracula Mavis, our frenchie, came home, Lilith completely took to her, but Loki needed some warming up... Loki knows how Francesca feels. Anyhow, we're all one big happy family now.

  • Exactly! Same here! It was a t-e-r-r-i-b-l-e rain and wind storm that passed over Mandy's and my house the other nite! Schwhew! The wind woke BOTH of us up around 3:35 am, and mommie (um, that's me!) had to go out in my nightgown and retrieve my garbage bag which was across the street! When morning came, I found that a large tree branch had snapped from the very tippietop of our tree, j-u-s-t missing our fence (and electric service!) while landing in our neighbor's yard! That was a veritable mess needing to be cleaned up! Wait - there's more... Later in the morning, the water began seeping, seeping, seeping into the basement, leaving only the center of the floor dry! AND... I had to get out a stored-for-winter garden hose, hook it up and turn back on the winterized/turned OFF faucet to hose off muddy water that was laying on our low-lying patio, which is right off the backdoor (the entrance we mainly use)! It was NOT a good day! After hosing off and broom-swooshing the patio several times, even little Mandy didn't want to get her 'pwecious pawpads' wet while out on her harness/leash - back in we went!

Girls, the l-o-n-g moral to this story is that it IS good that you two can have wisdom and teach from your experiences... As dastardly as bathtime is for you two short-haired beauties, think what little GK and the other fluffiewuffies would've looked like, all wet and matted and muddy if they'd've been allowed to venture outside in all of that mayhem! Even with longing and sad eyes for want of outdoor adventure, sometimes it IS best to be on the inside, looking out! Take it from me!

    =^..^=
