Be hip and helpful all with one great holiday gift!
I recently told you about some really cool adoption-supporting art by Shepard Fairey, the man Time magazine named Icon-Maker of the Year. Shepard is famed for having created the Obama HOPE image that now resides in the Smithsonian as a national treasure!
Well, Mr. Fairey and those at his uber-hip Obey Clothing co. are so committed to helping homeless pets that they just came out with this awesome adoption-promoting collar and leash!
1 The ADOPT image has the words 'Lead by Example' on it - creating a clever pun re: a dog lead and setting an example for others about the importance of adoption. George here likes to call it 'bling' with a purpose!
2 Could you possibly think of a more fab holiday gift for your dog loving friends, your pooch and your savvy self!
3 The ADOPT collars are sturdy, fully adjustable and can fit both small (not tiny) and large pooches. They have a colorful metal ‘dog tag’ with the image that Shepard Fairey created for Adopt-a-Pet.com
4 The collar and leash allow Molly here to do some advocacy of her very own! The web address is right there in the art so when people ask how to go about adopting an animal (including cats, bunnies and more) your pooch can provide them with a free way to see over 100,000 animals needing homes nationally at Adopt-a-Pet.com!
5 If your pooch is particularly talkative, perhaps he'll even share the story of his own road to rescue. Milo is making those, "I'm one of the lucky ones..." eyes! And he gets to wear chic accessories...I mean "bling"... to spread the word for his other animal friends in need.
8 Wheezie agrees....'A treat for our time spent modeling is the least you can do... perhaps 2 treats since I am also modeling the leash....'
11 "Enough about the leash and collar already. Look what I can do with my ears! One up. One down. One up... you get the idea...."
15 "I'm not wearing this bling for nothing ya know... I'm all for adoption but would it kill you to offer me treat? A much deserved one I might add..."
17 "What's a guy gotta do to get a drink around here? This modeling is tough work ya know! I'm parched. "
They have chosen Adopt-a-Pet.com as their latest Awareness program partner: The Awareness program is their way of raising awareness and support for certain causes. The pet overpopulation crisis and the resulting plight of homeless pets is one they care deeply about and like Martha, they believe in the non-profit efforts of Adopt-a-Pet.com to get homeless pets seen and saved.
All of the proceeds for collar and leash sales go to help the cause! I think Obey's own posse of rescued pooches may have weighed in on the project -- they even modeled the items gratis!
Show your appreciation to a friend who saved a life, your vet, your adopted pooch and your accessory-savvy self! Let the world know you support pet adoption.
In kinship,
Dr. Pia Salk
P.S. Original, limited-edition ADOPT art prints are still available as a great holiday gift as well! Each is signed and numbered by Shepard Fairey. The prints are $200 each, but you can also get the image on high quality 4" x 6" stickers. A package of 10 is $10 and they make great stocking stuffers!!

Hi Dr. Pia: I have lots of BLING. Momma sometimes gets me some at Michaels Arts & Crafts. Right now, I have a collar of big jingle bells that I get to wear everyday from morning till I go to bed at night. I sound like one of Santa's reindeer when my dad walks me around the neighborhood. I just love them. After New Year's Day, the collar comes off for another year till the holidays begin again.
Well, it's time for a nap. Very coolish weather here on the coast. Take care and see ya later. Love, Gracyn.

Hello ladies, Kirby here.
I just love the bling. When we travel and I go for my walk just before bedtime, I sometimes put on my little globe with the flashing LED’s, on my collar. They are red, white, and blue and really do flash bright. If we are walking where there is little traffic, I don’t put it on. I can say one thing, you won’t miss me as I prance along.
Catch you later, Kirby.

Hi Dr. Pia, Thanks for another fabulous blog to help any animal that would love to be adopted. Your photos are absolutely fantastic and my little Dudley Do Right is very much like little George. He is always asking for treats no matter what he does and he is very patient waiting. Keep up the great work! Jan
