A visit to Yale University

Posted by Francesca

Last Saturday, we piled in the car and Carlos drove us to New Haven, Connecticut, the home of Yale University.  Martha wanted to go to the Yale University Art Gallery to see a very special exhibit called 'Mary Delany and her Circle.'  Mary Delany was an 18th Century Englishwoman who made extraordinary botanical collages out of paper, and you know how much Martha loves botany.  As usual, when dogs are not permitted, we Frenchies, go off and find our own fun.

Walking along the wet streets of New Haven, we came upon a group of students who were raising money for the Connecticut Food Bank. We decided to help them for a while and many people stopped and donated to this worthy cause.

Down the street at Y Haircutting, we spotted our cousin, an English bulldog. On further inspection, we realized it was a stuffed toy. Can you believe this place has been in business since 1909? That's one big pile of hair!

We asked this boy if we French bulldogs could also be mascots. He laughed and said not to worry - we were already Martha Stewart's mascots.

Since it was so cold and dreary outside, we decided to wait awhile and watch the world go by with our new friends at Y Haircutting.

  • Hello Ladies,
I am up very early today preparing for cookie baking. I have to be at my best for any treats. I loved seeing your adventure to Yale. I bet you helped the Food Bank earn a lot of donations just on your good looks and celebrity statis. Hope everyone has a good weekend.

  • how very cool! I would love to visit Yale University and all the exhibitions they have there..hey, my family Ives married into Yale family from New Haven.
How nice of Carlos and you sweet pups to stop and help a cookie sale and then going to that Y Haircutters playing with the kids...Francesca and Sharkey you are so giving of yourselves and don't even know it.

  • Hello ladies, Kirby here.
When I say the title of the article, I thought that you were going to Yale University as students. Silly me, they won’t let dogs go to the university; may have a problem passing the entrance exam. I know that “we” wouldn’t have a problem at all because we are so smart. Well at least Martha, and my mommy, think we are smart. Now for the English bulldog, that may be another story; just kidding all you English bulldog fans out there. It was really cool this morning during my walk. Kind of quickens one’s steps a little just keeping warm. Breakfast and a nap should change things a little.
    Catch you later, Kirby.

  • Hi Sweeties,
Long time no talk to - "I sorry"! So you didn't get to go inside the Art Gallery but you went for a nice ride and then a nice walk with Carlos. Bonus! It was sweet of you to help out with the Food Bank donations but that's what you are anyway - sweet! Did anyone come by the haircutting place and ask, "How much are those doggies in the window?" They better not try to buy you. Talk to you later kiddos. Trish

  • What lucky kids they were to get to meet the two of you. Such little angels helping out with the food bank donation. Doesn't hurt to get in a few extra 'nice' activities for Santa's list before XMAS.

Zoe where are you these days? So used to seeing you just about everyday. Hope that everything is well. Have a safe, happy weekend everyone!

  • You two are wonderful little representatives of mommieMartha - I've ALWAYS tho't that and I'm sure I've mentioned it a time or two over the months...

The Mary Delaney exhibit, I'm sure, was sheer delight for mommieMartha, and I'm glad she set out to take this fun little road trip with you girls. Sharkeybarkey, you looked absolutely adorable sitting beside that English bulldog while sitting in the window. I think I almost saw a little circled halo above your head in that photo! [giggle]

Well, girls...the weekend is here! HousekeeperLaura is decorating the house for Christmas, so you make sure to be helpful as much as you can, okay?!

Muuuahhh, baby girls...love you, pretty things!

    =^..^=

  • There are lots of similarities in this story. Your mom, Martha, and my mom, Kathy, share the same birthday, August 3. In fact, some of her friends will kiddingly call her Martha because of her creative ideas. She used live in CT, too, but I think you live in NY state now, right?

Mary Delany is a very familiar name in our family, we have two - MaryLee Delaney and Mary Elizabeth Delaney. My mom used one of Mary Delany's cards for Xmas last year!

My mom just loves cats, of course; I'm a rescued black Persian and Siamese-mixed male with big yellow eyes about 3 years old. I spend most of my day looking out the window because mom has all the birdfeeders in view for me to see all the activity. I do a lot of talking while I watch them feed. It's fun!

Maybe someday, the birthday ladies will meet. We have a lovely winery right across the reservoir from our house in East Wallingford. It is beautiful here no matter what the season.

Glad you enjoyed your visit to Yale and New Haven. Come again soon!

  • Welcome to CT!!!
Yale is most beautiful place to visit. My youngest son (14) went to symphony at Yale. He enjoyed it and was so tired. I live just 20 min from Yale.
I have three dogs said Hi to Frenchies. Bonita is GSD/LAB, Ceta is Schipperke, Chiquita is (Chihuahua/Pug = Chug). I love dogs! I thought I was the only one sleeps with a lot of blanket on top of my favorite comforter. To keep dogs off of my comforter.

  • Hi Girl Friends, You sure do have fun no matter where you girls go and you sure do meet some nice people. Uncle Carlos sure is a great person to take you two to special places whenever you can't go into a place that doesn't allow dogs. Hope you are having a fun weekend with dear Martha. It is still cold here, but is finally getting a little above freezing. Love Dudley Do Right xoxo

  • Please invite me and my dog Alpo on your show. My SheepDog is fat, lazy and happy and I'm tall dark and Jewish.

  • Hi there....I just wanted to thank you for posing for pictures at Y Haircutting with my kids. They were so excited to come home and tell everyone about meeting you two. And even more excited when they saw their pictures online. It was a memorable event for them and they said that Francesca and Sharkey were so cute!!!
Thanks again for making their day!!!!
