Sharkey told you yesterday that our veterinarian, Dr. Marty, told me that I had to rest because I have lyme disease. What fun is that? To help pass the time, I hit the books and did a little research about my breed in French Bulldog A Comprehensive Guide To Owning and Caring For Your Dog. Here are some characteristics from the American Kennel Club breed standard. We, Frenchies, are superb!
Weight: Not to exceed 28 pounds.
Body: Short and well rounded. The chest is broad, deep, and full.
Head: Large and square.
Neck: Thick and well arched with loose skin at the throat.
Ears: Known as the bat ear.
Color: Acceptable colors – All brindle, fawn, white, brindle and white.
To pass the time while resting, I decided to do a little research about French Bulldogs in this Kennel Club Book.

I totally agree about the cover of the book, it should have been a black brindle. I could be your twin but I have a small white T on my chest, it’s very cute actually.

I’m sure Dr. Marty is taking very good care of you. Tell Martha you need a nice bowl of chicken soup with lots of shredded chicken and carrots, that always makes me feel better. I love mom’s homemade soup.
I went to see my doctor last night, Dr. Keefe. I’ve been scratching under my arm pit a lot and I’m getting a small bald spot. Mom freaks out any time I have a hair out of line so off we went to see the Doc. He did some tests and is not concerned, said it might have been an insect bite and it’s just itcy right now. Thank God no Lime Disease. I have to use a spray two times a day and I should get some relief.

Hello ladies, Kirby here.
That book shows what the “perfect” dog should look like. I say that any dog that has a loving family is the “perfect” dog. If you look closely, you may find that we all have some sort of imperfection. Me, for some reason my ears did not stand all the way up. Don’t know why, they just didn’t. Mama and daddy still think that I am perfect. Now that’s a hard standard to live up to, but I try to please them anyway.

I feel so sorry for you Francesca. Lyme is so common here in the northeast. The 3 of us have to wear preventic collars from March to December, to prevent the ticks from biting us. I hope you’re feeling better soon. Rest up, eat well, read, maybe a new toy might boost your spirits.
Oh, I noticed the AKC didn’t mention what good hunters Frenchies are…they don’t know the skills you & Sharkey have!

My pug, Lilly had Lyme disease. It was an awful month. She got sick on the antibiotic. I was a wreck when she kept losing weight and not getting measurably better. I am glad that episode is behind us.
I hope you are faring better Franny. Hang tough – it will end!

Oh Franniehonnie, you are such a precious little girl! I just love your second photo, as you look up into the camera, so full of expression. You and your sister are a beautiful little breed of doggies. You may not remember, but I’ve mentioned before that when I was a little girl, we had Boxer doggies, and you-n-Sharkey are just smaller versions of them! We even had a brindle one, just like you! We got her, just after we lost one to cancer. When our first Boxerdoggie went to Heaven, my daddy cried (I was, maybe, 5 or 6) and my mama came home from the veterinarian’s that day, leash in hand, and sunglasses on, on a rainy day. Our new doggie helped to heal our broken hearts – she was a wonderful, faithful and loving friend.
Hmmm, let’s see… You know, the lighter-colored doggie kind of looks best on the book cover…sometimes, when mommieMartha takes your picture, you sometimes get lost in the background, and we can’t always see your beautiful little features. You ARE a fine specimen, though, of your breed!
